Record a Meeting

Record a meeting straight into a note. Vist transcribes the audio, writes a summary with action items, and keeps the full transcript on hand.

Some meetings you can't take notes in — you're presenting, leading, or otherwise too active to type. Record a Meeting captures the audio and turns it into a structured note, so you stay present in the room and still leave with a record.

Starting a recording

There are three ways to begin:

  • Template picker — open the new-note menu and choose the Record a meeting tile. Vist creates a fresh note and starts recording right away.
  • Command palette — open it with Cmd+K, type "Record a meeting", and press Enter.
  • From an existing note — click the Record meeting button in the note toolbar to record into the note you already have open.

Grant microphone access when your browser asks. A timer shows the elapsed recording time while you record.

Stopping and processing

Click Stop when the meeting ends. Vist then:

  1. Transcribes the audio to text.
  2. Summarises the meeting into a short Summary section (one to three paragraphs).
  3. Extracts action items into a Tasks list, with priority (!high, !medium, !low) and due dates (//YYYY-MM-DD) where they were clearly stated.
  4. Appends the full transcript in a collapsible section at the bottom of the note, so the raw text is always available without cluttering the page.

Turning action items into your tasks

The Tasks list captures every action item from the meeting — including things other people agreed to do. Vist deliberately does not assign them to you automatically.

Review the list and add @me to the items that are actually yours. Those become tasks in Vist and show up in your Today, Upcoming, and All views. The rest stay as a plain checklist in the note for reference. See Task Management for everything you can do with the @me shorthand.

Cloud vs. local transcription

  • Cloud (default) — transcription and summarising run on Vist's servers. Available on the Founder and Pro plans, within a small weekly recording budget that resets every Monday.
  • Local — in the Vist desktop app, audio is transcribed on your own machine with whisper.cpp. No budget, and the audio never leaves your computer. Choose your preferred mode in settings.

The transcript becomes a source

Every recorded meeting is also saved as a transcript source and cited from the note. That means the meeting's content is searchable and can feed into your knowledge base alongside your other material.
